Do you have toxins in your body? Think for a moment of all the foods and drinks you have consumed over your lifetime. The amount could literally add up to tens of thousands of pounds. And even small percentages of toxins in our food and drink can add up to large amounts of toxins over time. If you have experienced weight gain, fatigue or difficulty sleeping, poor digestion, food cravings, reduced mental clarity, or low libido, toxins could be contributing to those symptoms and cleansing is designed to remove many of these toxins from our systems.

Aside from holiday overeating, simply living creates waste. As you read this, your body is making ammonia and carbon dioxide. These and other poisons are created by the workings of each cell and it is the job of your liver, lymphatic system, kidneys, lungs, intestines, blood and skin to filter these toxins from your body. When overloaded, your body becomes inefficient and like a furnace with a clogged filter, it collects toxins and waste. Today with the varied and manufactured substances we eat, imbibe, and inhale, cleansing is even more important to our vitality and health. Hippocrates once said, “the natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well.”

There are many different types of cleanses. Some are great, some ok and some just outright bad and a waste of money. Some cleanses focus on a specific organ like colon, gallbladder or liver and some are whole body cleanses. Cleansing is very different than a fad diet because diets ignore the way our bodies actually work. Gaining the weight back (plus a little extra) is all too common.

A bad cleanse uses harsh, single purpose ingredients and also does not focus at all on nutrition. Please be wary of harsh colon cleanses on the market that can do more harm than good. In general colon cleansing is very beneficial, but works best when you know exactly what you are dealing with. By finding out exactly what bacteria you have a cleanse can be custom made to work against those specific microbes and yeasts. If a general cleanse is used, you want to make sure the ingredients are broad spectrum and potent for different types of bacteria. Some colon cleanses also contain harsh ingredients that can cause intestinal irritation and keep you in the bathroom all day long. While it is good to “get things out”, you don’t want to irritate the body in the process.

What makes a cleanse good is something that addresses the whole body and uses potent proven ingredients to pull toxins out of the body while providing nutrition at the same time. A good cleanse requires making new healthier choices for yourself for a period of a few weeks. You need to discontinue fast foods, processed convenience foods, and sugar filled snacks which place an unnecessary load on the body. Changing what you are eating for the duration of the cleanse is of the utmost importance because the body only goes in cleansing mode when the burden of digestion and food processing is taken away.
